Bespoke Design & Manufacturing

Whilst Getac's rugged portable computing products are designed to help people working in the toughest environments a number of our military customers have unique requirements that cannot always be fully met by an off the shelf product. Getac's professional customisation service helps to overcome this problem; the team consists of over 50 engineers experienced in software, hardware, mechanical design and thermal management.

Whether it is a simple matter of disconnecting a speaker, modifying the BIOS so the notebook in your bergan does not switch itself off when you take cover in a hurry or modifying the connectors to integrate a notebook into an existing complex system Getac has the knowledge and capability to assist.

Working with our customers Getac identify specific requirements and pass these to the customisation team who then work alongside the original hardware designers to produce the necessary modifications to meet your specific requirements.

Provision of engineering drawings and quick proof of concept prototypes ensure customer feedback the customisation process ensuring that requirements are fully met.

Military Specification Connectors - Military (MIL-SPEC) connectors are designed in accordance with military specifications, taking into account the need to protect the connection from the environment for use in military and aerospace applications. Whether military connectors are required to enhance the existing Getac product or for integration into a system a number of factors need to be considered when specifying military (MIL-SPEC) connectors

including the number of contacts, contact type, shell size, shell style or gender, coupling type, contact size, and contact termination options, compliance, etc. Getac has modified a number of its units to incorporate military connectors for a variety of uses from a variety of suppliers.

Connectors for USB - In order to meet a specific customers' interoperability requirement with an existing system Getac modified V100 Fully Rugged Convertible Notebook by including a USB socket compatible with a USB connector from an industry leader in rugged connectivity.

Self-latching Connector - Where customers require the assurance of a leading suppliers self- latching connector for its easy and quick mating/ un-mating features Getac have customised their products accordingly. The chosen system provides absolute security against vibration, shock or pull on the cable, and facilitate operation in a very limited space. This example implementation on Getac rugged products combines the LAN and power supply into a single robust and reliable connector.

Fibre Optic Connectivity - Whilst some military data networks operate over copper cables there is frequently a need for military users to operate over fibre optic connections. This Getac M230 Fully Rugged Notebook integrates fibre optic connectors that are compatible with multiple transmission element cables.

These products are distinguished from commercial off-the-shelf components by their ability to deliver high-bandwidth data streams without the attenuation losses typical of less-precise technologies.

Military-grade fibre optics are also known for their advanced tolerance to temperature extremes, immunity from electromagnetic interference and ease of integration into tested and qualified Mil-Spec interconnect cabling and connector packaging.
